Corylus maxima ‘Purpurea’
Commonly known as the Purple Filbert, this hardy deciduous shrub gives plenty of seasonal interest. From February its golden yellow catkins drip from bare branches creating lovely silhouettes in winter borders. As the spring progresses the purple, heart-shaped foliage adds a splash of colour, and tubular husks form to surround the edible nuts. Corylus maxima ‘Purpurea’ makes a superb specimen plant for the cottage garden. Supplied in a 7.5 litre pot.
