Matteuccia struthiopteris
It’s easy to see why this fern holds an RHS AGM! Handsome, upright fronds of up to 1.5m (59), with gently drooping tips give Matteuccia struthiopteris its common name of Shuttlecock Fern. This noble perennial forms a large rosette of foliage that makes a spectacular display in spring as the new fronds begin to unfurl. A superb plant for damp, shaded borders, woodland gardens or when planted in the moist soil at the edge of ponds. Matteuccia is at its best when planted in large colonies for maximum impact! Height: 150cm (59). Spread: 100cm (39).
