Physalis Chinese Lantern
Physalis Chinese lantern blooms from June until July and produces incredible coral coloured papery Chinese lantern calyces. Commonly known as Cape Gooseberry, Physalis alkekengi var. franchetii is easy to care for and grows best when positioned in a sunny yet shaded spot. Your Chinese lantern bare roots are mainly grown for their showy edible berries, before they appear delicate cream-coloured flowers will develop in midsummer above oval green foliage. There is no doubt that your Physalis Chinese lantern would make a spectacular standalone specimen shrub, however, it would also make a superb addition to a cut flower or cottage garden.
